Dansar ut julen in English

Dancing out the Christmas season with a fun party

The old saying "Tjugondedag Knut Christmas danced out" means that Christmas celebrations end on tjugondedag knot, that is, January 13, with games and dancing around the Christmas tree followed by the Christmas tree looting.

On January 13, twenty days after Christmas, Christmas is out in Sweden. In the older tradition and elsewhere in Europe are taking out Christmas January 7, that is, when we celebrate Twelfth Night. Knut The day is named after the Danish Duke Canute Lavard, murdered January 7, 1131 and was later canonized. His death happened to be the day after Epiphany, when Christmas was over. But at the end of the 1600s extended Christmas celebrations with a week, and the name Knut moved 7 to 14 January. The reason was that every great church festival in earlier times had an after eight days later, a so-called octave.

The King Knut is mentioned in the Farmer's Almanac, the Danish King Knut, who also was declared a saint and who was the patron of the medieval Knutsguilds. Guilds was a form of medieval trading companies. Knutsguilds arranged sometimes knot balls, which are likely to affect twentieth-knot and Christmas tree looting.

Take the opportunity to gather adult and children to one last Christmas party with singing and dancing games around the Christmas tree, Christmas tree looting and fish pond in conclusion. Prepare Christmas tree plundering by hanging up the goodies in the tree, such as candy cones, candy-filled crackers, fancy gingerbread with icing, candy cane canes and other treats that can be eaten. In the past they hung apples in the tree.

Tips for a fun Christmas party looting
1: Eat gingerbread
2: Play and dance last few laps around the Christmas tree. Dance games as: "Fox surprises over the ice" but also dance game "Little frogs".
3: Sacking Christmas tree at all the goodies and dress
4: Fix the fish pond for children.

When the party is over to pick away the last Christmas decorations and pack them down for next Christmas.

First song: Fox hurries over the ice
There is hardly a more typical Swedish dance-around-fir-game than this!
All hold hands and dance around the Christmas tree in a circle and sing the song, and when you come to "... like the girls do ..." then stop it all up, do what girls do, such as curtsy. On the next line of the song - "So we get permission ..." - then everyone claps their hands and spinning around.
In the next turn changed the girls out to "the boys", traditionally bows instead of curtsy. Since
usually sing about different professions; Baker to roll the dough, the shoemaker as sole shoes, chimney sweep as soot chimney. Traditionally sung also integrin Olle and laughter-Olle, who naturally grinning and laughing as they sang "Do we ...".
A little more modern: It is all too good to sing about all those present: "Here's doing mother she was going ..." and so you have to find something that is typical precisely for that person - can be lots of fun!

The Fox hurries over the ice,
the Fox hurries over the ice,
do we get permission, do we get permission,
singing how girls do?
This is what the girls where they go,
and where they are and where they stand,
do we get permission, do we get permission,
singing how girls do?

Second song: Priest's little crow - Priests's Little Crow
All children love it when they get the opportunity to fall down in a mess with the adults. This song game looks just as good on Christmas Eve around the maypole.
When singing priest's - or Grandmother - Little Crow keeps you hands and dancing in a circle around the Christmas tree. In "Once he slipped here ..." pulled all in the ring in one direction, and "... yet he slipped there" on the other. And by "... yet he slipped down into the ditch" all fall down, down into the ditch! (Old and osteoporosis receive dispensation from throwing himself headlong on the floor.)
Priests Little Crow was out and go,
noone he had to drove.
Priests Little Crow was out and go,
noone he had to drove.
then he fell here, then he fell there,
then he slipped into the ditch.
then he fell here , then he fell there,
then he slipped into the ditch.

Third song: Small frogs

Small frogs, small frogs are funny to see.
Small frogs, small frogs are funny to see.
No ears, no ears, no tails have they.
No ears, no ears, no tails have they.
Kou oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh-kou,
kou oh-oh-oh-oh-kaa.
Kou oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh-kou,
kou oh-oh-oh-oh-kaa.

Fourth song: We are musicians,
This is also a traditional dance for both the Christmas tree as a maypole. It starts as a circle dance in which all hold hands as they walk around the Christmas tree. In "We can play ..." pretend play all the different instruments, violin, double bass and flute (the latter two very fast). Since taking to join hands and start dancing again at "And we can dance ..." and change the course direction at the second verse.
We are musicians, from Skaraborg.
We are musicians, from Skaraborg.
We can play fio-LIO LIO lej,
we can play the double bass and flute!
And we can dance bomfaderalla, bomfaderalla, bomfaderalla,
we can dance bomfaderalla, bomfaderallan - lej.
We can play fio-LIO LIO lej
we can play the double bass and flute.
And we can dance the other way, other way, other way,
and we can dance the other way, the other way with!

Fifth song: Carousel
The carousel is also a dance that fits around the Christmas tree. Carousel speed increases while singing so that it goes really fast at the end - be careful so that none fall into the Christmas tree!
Virgin, virgin, virgin, virgin pink
This is the carousel, which will go to the evening.
Ten of the large and five small.
Hurry up, hurry up, let's go carousel!
Ha, ha, ha, now it's so good,
for Andersson and Pettersson and Lundström yes'!
Ha, ha, ha, now it's so good,
for Andersson and Pettersson and Lundstrom and yes'.

The sixth song: Rocket

Then they hit the gingerbread house and eat it!

More games that are traditional in Sweden.

Ritch, ratch filibom
Round dance where one can stop and wash themselves with soda water, or in some versions seawater, then ends the song "... seawater, of course!"
Ritsch, Ratsch, filibom-boom-boom,
filibom boom-boom, boom filibom boom
Ritsch, Ratsch, filibom-boom-boom,
filibom-boom-boom, filibom!
Ms. Soderstrom, Mrs. Soderstrom,
Mrs. Soderstrom, Mrs. Soderstrom,
and Little Miss Rose!
They wash themselves with soda water,
sodas, sodas.
wash with soda water,
sodas, punch!

There is also a second verse featuring pigs, sung as a contrast to the first part:

Små grisarna, små grisarna är lustiga att se.
Båd öron, båd öron, och svansar hava de.
Båd öron, båd öron, och svansar hava de.

With the help of Arkah EMPstrike, we were able to create 2 of these songs: Carousel and Small Frogs. They sound very nice :-)

We had a second year follow up.

We danced in the Restaurant first and then we walked to the Christmas tree in a row with the tune of Small Frogs.

When we entered the area where the big tree is located we danced around it with the tune of Carousel.
